Sinterklaas

Sinterklaas is a traditional holiday figure celebrated in the Netherlands and some other Dutch-speaking regions. The holiday itself is called "Sinterklaas," and it is similar to the Santa Claus tradition in other parts of the world, but with some distinct differences. Sinterklaas is typically depicted as a bishop in a red robe and mitre, carrying a staff and a book. He arrives in the Netherlands in mid-November by steamboat from Spain (a fictional home), and his arrival is a significant event, often celebrated with parades and festivities. Sinterklaas is known for his generosity and gift-giving.
